Shoe Care: Leather, Suede, Velour, Nubuck

Proper care is not only about appearance, but also about longevity, comfort, and how your shoes feel throughout the day.

Different materials require different approaches.

Smooth Leather

Characteristics: durable, elastic, ages beautifully over time.

Basic care:
• Wipe with a soft damp cloth after wearing

• Use leather cream (matching color or neutral)

• Polish with a soft brush or cloth

Conditioning:
• Apply nourishing cream or leather conditioner 1–2 times per month

• Helps prevent cracks and maintains softness

Protection:
• Treat with a water-repellent spray before first wear

• Reapply every 2–3 weeks

Important:
• Do not dry near heaters

• Use shoe trees to maintain shape

Suede

Characteristics: soft, velvety surface, sensitive to moisture and dirt

Basic care:

• Clean with a special suede brush (rubber or soft bristle)

• Remove dust and light dirt using dry methods

Stains:

• Use a suede eraser

• For tougher stains — use special cleaners (foam cleaner)

Protection:

• Always use a water- and dirt-repellent spra

• Reapply regularly

Important:

• Do not clean with water

• Do not use creams (they damage the texture)

Characteristics: similar to suede, but with a shorter, more even nap

Care:

• Brush gently in the direction of the nap

• Use delicate products suitable for suede/velour

Refreshing:

• Light steam treatment (e.g. over hot water) helps lift the nap

• Brush gently afterwards

Protection:

• Water-repellent spray is essential

Nubuck

Characteristics: sanded leather with a velvety surface, denser than suede

Basic care:

• Clean with a special nubuck brush

• Use an eraser to remove stains

Deep cleaning:

• Only use products designed for nubuck (liquid or foam)

Protection:

• Regularly apply protective spray

Important:

• Do not use regular leather creams

• Avoid excessive moisture
